Job Description:
We are seeking a K-to-A Initiative Director at Johns Hopkins
University who will lead a research-driven initiative focused on
translating academic knowledge into real-world impact across local,
national, and global contexts. The overarching goal of the K2A
Initiative is to advance the study and practice of knowledge
mobilization, strengthening the capacity of faculty and scholars
across Hopkins to engage in impactful research translation and
application.Specifically, the Director will continue to cultivate
and lead a research-centered Community of Practice to explore,
develop, and implement frameworks that enhance knowledge
mobilization, aligning with the conceptual foundation established
by the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor (BDP) Cluster on K2A. This
role requires deep engagement with faculty from each
School/Division, ensuring alignment with the One Hopkins strategic
vision and expanding collaborative opportunities across
disciplines.Externally, the Director will position the K2A
Initiative as a hub for research translation and global engagement.
A key priority will be to continue to leverage the Hopkins DC
presence to strengthen connections with policy leaders,
practitioners, and global institutions, ensuring that K2A research
informs decision-making at multiple levels. The position supports
the two faculty leaders of the K2A Initiative, Bloomberg
Distinguished Professors spanning the Schools of Nursing, Medicine,
Business, Public Health, and Engineering.In this full-time role,
the Director will mentor and oversee student researchers working on
K2A-related projects, guiding them in research translation
methodologies, stakeholder engagement, and impact
assessment.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning &
Leadership
- Develop and execute a research-driven strategic vision for the
Knowledge-to-Action (K2A) Initiative, ensuring alignment with the
university's mission, global knowledge translation priorities, and
the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor (BDP) program.
- Advance transdisciplinary scholarship on the complexity present
in knowing-doing gaps in order to deepen understanding of this
challenging phenomenon.
- Provide thought leadership on knowledge mobilization theory,
methodology, and application, positioning K2A as a leader in
research translation into practice and policy.Faculty & Research
Engagement
- Deepen engagement with faculty and researchers across Hopkins
to foster collaborative knowing-doing gap inquiry and research
translation initiatives.
- Strengthen research partnerships with the School of Education,
Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, Bloomberg Center for
Government Excellence, School of Advanced International Studies and
other relevant divisions.
- Identify and support cross-disciplinary research efforts that
contribute to advancing local-to-global knowledge mobilization
frameworks.Student Researcher Supervision & Mentorship
- Supervise and mentor student researchers engaged in K2A-focused
projects, ensuring their work contributes to the initiative's
objectives.
- Provide training and professional development in research
translation methodologies, stakeholder engagement, and impact
assessment.
- Support students in publishing and disseminating research
findings through academic journals, policy briefs, and
practitioner-oriented outlets.Project & Program Management
- Oversee the coordination and execution of research-driven
projects, ensuring timely delivery of K2A initiative outputs.
- Facilitate cross-school collaborations that enhance
interdisciplinary research initiatives under the K2A
framework.Partnership Development & External Engagement
- Cultivate and manage strategic research partnerships with
external organizations, government agencies, industry leaders, and
international institutions.
- Leverage K2A's research outputs to inform policymaking,
community engagement, and global knowledge-sharing
platforms.Sustainability & Resource Development
- Develop a long-term sustainability plan, including securing
research funding and identifying internal and external resource
opportunities.
- Identify, pursue and manage grants, philanthropic
contributions, and institutional investments that align with K2A's
knowing-doing gap exploration and knowledge translation
objectives.Community Engagement & Knowledge Dissemination
- Promote the initiative's work through strategic dissemination
efforts, including academic publications, policy engagement, and
media outreach.
- Organize and participate in targeted symposia, workshops, and
convenings that enhance the visibility and impact of K2A research,
ensuring events serve as a platform for research-driven discussions
and the needs of the growing K2A community of practice.Evaluation &
Continuous Improvement
- Design and implement impact assessment metrics to evaluate
K2A's contributions to research translation and knowledge
mobilization.
- Utilize data-driven insights to refine strategies and measure
long-term success.Reporting & Institutional Communication
- Provide regular reports on research progress, impact
assessment, and strategic direction to university leadership,
faculty stakeholders, and funding partners.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all K2A research and
engagement activities.Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline.
- Five years of related work experience demonstrating increasing
responsibility.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to
the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred
Qualifications
- PhD or doctoral level research training or equivalent in a
relevant field (education, organizations, policy).
- Demonstrated experience in high-level project management and
interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising strategies.
- Understanding of university research and education environments
