Role Summary:
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and
implementation of high-quality information technology solutions,
either within a physical data center or a cloud-based platform.
This role involves providing technical expertise and integrating
engineering services to support business continuity and the mission
of DHS. The Systems Engineer ensures the effective execution of all
engineering functions, improving infrastructure, cloud-native
standardization, and capacity utilization.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Engineering: Plan, design, and implement engineering
functions related to data center or cloud infrastructure, systems
infrastructure, and networking infrastructure.
- Lifecycle Management: Support program SELC Gate Reviews, agile
reviews, and other technical reviews.
- Documentation: Create and maintain as-built documents, design
documents, and HW/SW refresh operations.
- Infrastructure Support: Provide resources for production
infrastructure, including creating and updating network and system
documentation, hardware inventory tracking, and software licensing
management.
- Configuration Management: Create and maintain network diagrams
and configuration management plans to ensure system sustainment and
viability.
- Human Factors Engineering (HFE): Deliver Section 508 EIT
Accessibility Test Plan and ensure compliance with DHS Section 508
requirements.
- Service Quality Engineering: Provide specialized engineering
skills in capacity management, performance engineering, and
analysis.
- Capacity Management: Execute and manage capacity management
processes, provide workload analysis, performance impact
assessments, and resource capacity baselines.
- Performance Engineering: Evaluate hardware and software
architectures, analyze performance test results, and support
performance testing with scenario creation and data
analysis.
- Modeling and Simulation: Provide solutions for performance and
capacity analyses, system reliability, and availability
analyses.
- Reliability/Maintainability/Availability (RMA): Execute RMA
processes, provide quantitative analyses, and support release-level
RMA assessments and optimization.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: Over 10 years of relevant experience in technical
engineering and infrastructure for large-scale IT systems,
including cloud and on-premises solutions.
- Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience in system
architecture, network infrastructure, storage architecture, and
capacity planning.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in systems engineering,
cloud infrastructure, or equivalent professional
qualifications.
- Knowledge and Expertise: In-depth understanding of SELC or
equivalent lifecycle processes, and agile methodologies.
Preferred:
- Advanced Technical Skills: Proficiency in additional
programming languages and tools relevant to system design and
integration.
- Cloud and Infrastructure: Strong background in designing and
implementing cloud-based and on-premises solutions, including
network infrastructure and storage systems.
- Security Awareness: Understanding of security requirements and
best practices, ensuring all technical solutions comply with
relevant security standards.
- Project Management: Ability to manage and coordinate complex
technical projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with
project goals.
- Advanced Degrees: A bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant
field, such as computer science or engineering.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in systems engineering,
project management, or cloud infrastructure.
- Strategic Development: Experience in developing and
implementing strategic technical plans, including technology
roadmaps and innovation strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively
with cross-functional teams, ensuring collaboration and integration
across various technical domains.
