Job Description:
Clinical DietitianJOB SUMMARYAs an experienced, competent
practitioner of medical nutrition therapy, provides all aspects of
nutrition support to a specialty pediatric population ranging in
age from birth to 18 years of age.This population includes
Outpatient Programs (Feeding Day Program & Clinics, Center for
Nutritional Rehab, Individual Nutrition Appts) as well as nutrition
support for a subset of our inpatient population.This is a
full-time position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITIONAssesses
patients' nutritional statusDevelops appropriate medical nutrition
therapy care plansProvides nutrition counseling and education to
patients and caregiversDocuments recommendations for treatment in
the patient's electronic medical record according to facility
policyCommunicates effectively with coworkers and families to
ensure appropriate nutrition care plan is implemented and
followedParticipates in interdisciplinary rounds with the medical,
nursing and rehab staffCoordinates care with interdisciplinary team
members.Performs all duties and responsibilities for designated
inpatients and ambulatory care patients.Functions as a member of
the multi-disciplinary team to develop, coordinate, implement and
evaluate patient's nutritional care plan.Documents
recommendations/treatment in the patient's medical record according
to facility policyComplies with all hospital wide and departmental
policies and proceduresPOSITION REQUIREMENTSEducational
Requirements - Minimum of a Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics
or related field. Completion of required coursework, Dietetic
Internship and successful passing of the CDR exam are required. If
successful passing of the CDR exam prior to 1/1/24, a Bachelor's
degree with completion of required coursework and Dietetic
Internship are required.Licensure, Certification and Registration -
Dietitian licensure in the State of Maryland with maintenance of
licensure through required continuing education. Registration with
the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.Two to three years of
pediatric clinical nutrition experience required. Outpatient
experience preferred.Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate
effectively and courteously with patients, families and members of
the health care teamAbility to lift, move or position patients of
varying sizes and weights in order to obtain anthropometric data as
neededREPORTING RELATIONSHIPSReports to the Director of Clinical
Nutrition for administrative and operational directionWorks
cohesively with members of the clinical team to provide optimal
nutrition care for all patientsDirects, teaches and guides the
Nutrition Assistant staffINTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPSDirectly
interfaces daily with patients and families, fellow team members,
medical providers, nursing staff and other health system
staff.TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USEDCalculators and computer programs for
calculation of nutrient plan and patient intake, calipers and scale
as needed. Personal Computer for documentation in medical
records.PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONSTypical health care
environment. Incumbent is expected to use good judgement and employ
Universal Precautions when working with patient to reduce/eliminate
exposure to communicable disease and infection. Contact with blood
and body fluids is not expected on a routine basis. However,
contact is possible when performing certain tasks indicated in the
