Construction Inspector - Public Works Inspector I

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the inspections of public improvement construction
of streets, utilities, sidewalks, and drainage for compliance with
local, state, and federal code, regulations, and specifications.
Inspecting construction activities within all client right of ways
and the inspection of private improvements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Inspects and observes construction of public works and
infrastructure activities on a daily basis.
Inspects and compares material deliveries to approved materials
list and submittals and works with clients to handle any material
issues.
Inspects for proper survey and staking.
Performs and/or monitors the testing of backfill or construction
materials as required.
inspection of erosion control measures at construction sites during
construction
Coordinates and schedules requested inspections.
Monitors the testing of construction materials and works with
clients to handle any issues.
Collects and conveys information for approval of needed changes to
approved plans.
Obtains proper documentation associated with all changes.
Compiles and maintains detailed project records including daily
reports and other documentation as needed.
Assist in providing input during pre-design and at pre-construction
meetings.
Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

- Proficient in the use of computer programs such as Excel, Word,
and Outlook
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in new and rehabilitative
pipeline construction and
construction practices, procedures and materials;
- Considerable knowledge of soil compaction and testing
methods;
- Considerable knowledge in environmental regulations, sediment
control devices, and traffic control standards;
- Knowledge of concrete placement;
- Fluently communicate in English, both orally and in writing
- Extensive knowledge in reading and interpreting construction
plans and contract documents;
- Thorough understanding of the Water and Sewer Standard
Specifications and Standard Details;
- Ability to compute volumes and quantities on construction
materials;
- Considerable knowledge in interpreting survey field notes;
- Prepare accurate detailed reports of daily project progress;
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing and able to work
in a team environment;
- Enter confined spaces, work outdoors in inclement weather, climb
in and out of ditches and other
structures under construction, and the ability to lift objects that
weigh up to 50 lbs;
- Considerable knowledge of computer programs, including but not
limited to word, excel and office outlook;
- Familiarity with Erosion and Sedimentation Control.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years of experience in
the inspection and/or installation of underground water and sewer
new and/or rehabilitative pipeline construction. Experience should
include any combination of water/sewer construction, sewer main
lining, sewer manhole lining, replacement by excavation and pipe
bursting.
- Experience inspecting at least four (4) water/sewer contracts
within the last five (5) years.
- Possession of at least one of the following certifications:
NASSCO (PACP, MACP, LACP),
ITCP or Maryland Rural Water Operators License
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to candidates with following experience
:Prior public works inspection experience
Candidates with an academic curriculum in civil engineering,
environmental engineering, or engineering technology.
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Three years' experience related to the civil engineering field
(i.e. drafting, surveying, utility construction, or construction
technology)
One year of college/trade school related to drafting, surveying,
utility construction, or related technical curriculum.
Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) from the American
Public Works Association.
Any combination of education, experience, and/or certifications
that will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to be an
effective Public Works Inspector
Job Type: Full-time
for Inspector I per hour max rate salary is $28 to $32

Pay: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
